The act on reducing Parliament's operating costs, adopted by Parliament on 8 June 2026, was promulgated. MPs' basic remuneration will be 1.8 times the previous year's gross average wage published by the statistics office (KSH), with office holders' allowances as multiples of this, the Speaker's being 2.91 times. The fuel allowance of MPs living in Budapest falls from 2,500 km to zero, while those from elsewhere can also spend it on passes and electric car charging. Parliamentary groups can no longer give money from their budget support to their party, nor carry over unused funds at the end of the parliamentary term. The new rules must first be applied to the July 2026 payments.
