Parliament elected András Baka as President of the Republic; he takes office on 19 August. Drafts appeared on reorganising how rail and bus public transport is organised.
The agriculture minister's decree updated the testing rules used in the state recognition of plant varieties. It adopted new requirements of EU and international variety offices for testing, among others, beetroot, fodder kale, rice, certain brassicas, tomato and spinach varieties. It thereby transposes a 2025 EU directive. The decree entered into force on the day after publication.

The agriculture minister's decree introduces an advance on damage compensation for grape and fruit growers severely hit by the 2026 spring frost or by hail that fell by 15 June. An advance is available to those who paid their damage compensation contribution, where at least half of the plantation was damaged and the expected yield fell by at least 50 percent. Applications can be submitted electronically between 24 August and 6 September 2026. The advance is HUF 100,000 per hectare, proportionally less if the budget is not enough. The decision is made by 15 October at the latest, and payment follows within five days.

Parliament opened a new chapter in the 2026 budget for the newly created National Asset Recovery and Protection Office. It asked the government to provide the money needed to set up and run the office. The resolution entered into force on the day after publication.

Olivér Hortay (Fidesz) joined the Committee on Digitalisation and Technology and the Committee on Economy and Energy, in the latter filling the seat vacated by Péter Szijjártó. A decision issued on behalf of the justice minister states that several statutory and decree provisions linked to the control of EU funds entered into force on 8 August 2026. They could enter into force once the government certified on 7 August that the data in the register on the use of EU funds were complete. The provisions concerned relate to the acts on the Directorate General for Auditing European Funds and on closing the conditionality procedure, and to public procurement decrees.

Draft: a decree of the Ministry of Transport and Investment would designate the national transport organiser and set out how it operates. It would lay down its tasks, the division of decision-making powers with the ministry, professional supervision and requirements for its executives. The transport organiser would order and monitor national, regional and suburban public transport; comments could be sent until 19 August 2026.
