The act establishes the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office, an independent body subject only to the law. Its task is uncovering abuses involving public assets and tracing, securing and recovering unlawfully lost public assets, including in public procurement, subsidies, concessions and EU funds. The Office can investigate and, through prosecutors assigned to it, bring and represent charges in court. Its head and four vice-presidents are elected by Parliament on the proposal of the constitutional affairs committee, cannot be re-elected and enjoy parliamentary immunity. The president's monthly salary is seven times the judicial salary base.
