The sixteenth amendment of the Fundamental Law, adopted by Parliament on 15 June 2026, was promulgated. No one who has held the office of Prime Minister for a total of at least eight years since 2 May 1990 can be Prime Minister, and the mandate ends when it reaches eight years. Assets that public interest asset management foundations (KEKVA) received from the state revert to the state free of charge when they are wound up; the state exercises their founder's rights and can abolish them. The amendment repeals two further provisions of the Fundamental Law, whose content is not clear from the amendment's text. The amendment enters into force on the day after publication.
Weight: 3/3 · substantive · Concrete decision to be implemented (linked to promise B01, O06).
