ActAct XLIX of 2026: Amending certain acts in connection with using the names "megye" (county) and "kormánymegbízott" (government commissioner)2026. évi XLIX. törvény – A megye és a kormánymegbízott elnevezés alkalmazásával összefüggő egyes törvények módosításáról

The act reintroduces the names "megye" (county) instead of "vármegye" and "kormánymegbízott" (government commissioner) instead of "főispán" in more than 170 acts, for example for county government offices, county assemblies and county seats. According to the justification, names must clearly reflect the legal status and tasks of the bodies. The act also re-regulates the Prime Minister's pay: 1.91 times the basic MP salary if he is an MP, and 2.91 times if he is not. Most of the name changes enter into force on 1 October 2026, and the part affecting the act on the register of legal persons on 1 January 2027. Parliament adopted it on 8 September.
